The Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS) celebrated its new mission, vision, priorities, and logo with members and attendees during the organization’s 2023 annual meeting, “Driving Meaningful Change Together,” Nov. 8-10, 2023, in Washington DC.

“Our new mission is to advance the expertise and collective voice of specialty societies in support of physicians and the patients we serve,” said CMSS Chief Executive Officer, Helen Burstin, MD, MPH, MACP.  “We seek to elevate the unique role of specialty societies while keeping patients front and center.”

“Given the intense and complex pressures facing healthcare, there is an urgent need for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and transformative leadership among specialty societies,” added CMSS President Michael Sheppard, CPA, CAE. “By working together, we can advance healthcare for patients and physicians.”

Building upon a positive growth trajectory, CMSS has sharpened its strategic priorities to help specialty societies build capacity, increase cross-specialty engagement, share learning and innovation, and address critical issues across the house of medicine. The council’s contemporary new logo visually speaks to these dynamics, with the patient at the center.

The Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS) is a coalition of more than 50 specialty societies representing more than 800,000 physicians across the house of medicine. Read more about the council and the story behind its new logo at https://cmss.org/about-cmss/.
