CMSS Code for Interactions with Companies

The CMSS Code for Interactions with Companies guides ethical specialty society interactions with industry. CMSS members and for-profit entities rely on the code to develop their own policies and procedures that minimize conflicts of interest and safeguard the independence of their programs, policies, and advocacy positions.

Healthcare professionals, patients, and the public rely on medical societies to be authoritative, independent voices in science and medicine. Maintaining public confidence and minimizing actual and perceived conflicts of interest are critical. The CMSS Code for Interactions with Companies supports professional societies in meeting the highest ethical standards in their relationships with companies and the public.

2025 Code Update & Task Force

The CMSS Code was last updated in 2015. In 2025, CMSS will assemble a Task Force from across our membership to help update and revise the code. CMSS members and other stakeholders within the healthcare community will have opportunities to provide public comment on the current code and updated draft, for consideration by the Task Force.
