CMSS Leadership Summit on Equity and Antiracism

April 22, 2021 | Online Via Zoom

About the Summit:

At the CMSS Annual Meeting in October 2020, CMSS announced a strategic priority on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) and Antiracism. The meeting began with a Special Session on Racism in Medicine featuring Rhea Boyd, MD, MPH (UCSF) as the keynote speaker, with a discussion moderated by Patricia Turner, MD, MBA, FACS (American College of Surgeons). Over 150 medical society leaders participated in the interactive session and committed to further work to advance equity and address racism in medicine.

The CMSS Leadership Summit will provide an ongoing opportunity for collaborative learning and action across specialty societies, program director associations, and related medical organizations. The Summit will include sessions on systemic racism in medicine, strategies to counter dominant cultural norms in medicine, and collaborative opportunities for action.

This half-day summit will provide attendees with actionable information and collaborative opportunities to drive sustained improvement in diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI) and to counter racism in medicine. Together, we will consider:

  1. The linkage between diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism and disparities
  2. How to counter dominant cultural norms
  3. Opportunities to partner with and support the work of minority-facing medical organizations

Who should attend?

  • Society CEOs
  • CMSS Member staff engaged in DEI and Antiracism
  • Volunteer Physician Leadership
  • Organization of Program Director Associations (OPDA) Members
  • Interested non-member medical specialty society staff and leadership
