Equitable Professional Societies Network

The Equitable Professional Societies Network (EPSN) is a collaborative initiative convened by the American Medical Association (AMA) and the Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS), in collaboration with HealthBegins and Race Forward and a growing number of other organizations. As part of the Rise to Health Coalition (RTHC), these organizations are on a mission to advance a more equitable health care ecosystem—making health outcomes better for all.

Participating organizations benefit from educational sessions facilitated by thought leaders, networking opportunities, coordinated projects, and more. Participants may also join an action workstream, which provides support for applied learning and coordinated actions consistent with specialty society priorities, such as workforce diversification, reconsidering race in clinical algorithms, building capacity for equitable structural changes, changing narratives about equity and racial justice, and more.

The EPSN mobilizes organizations that represent diverse health care professionals, coordinates learning, and encourages action for collective impact so that all people have the power, circumstances and resources to achieve optimal health.

Audience:

The ESPN is open to all professional society staff and leaders who are interested in advancing health equity and racial justice.

Value:

The EPSN mobilizes organizations that represent diverse health care professionals to advance healthcare for all. Together, we will build capacity by sharing knowledge, skills, and resources, transform narratives, and fundamentally influence and change policies and structures. Participation by CMSS is a critical part of our commitment to shared learning and collaboration among specialty societies that helps advance a more equitable healthcare ecosystem for all.

Get Involved:

There are two ways to engage in the EPSN:

  1. Join the Learning Network: Designed to equip participating organizations with the knowledge, skills, resources and tools needed to operationalize equitable structural changes. Participating organizations will benefit from access to educational sessions led by leaders in the field, networking opportunities and more.
  2. Participate in an Action Workstream: Participants will have the opportunity to join an action workstream, which provides support for applying learning into coordinated actions consistent with key priority actions for professional societies.

CMSS is convening two Action Workstreams which activate professional societies to advance health equity within their own organizations. Learn more about both workstreams:
