The CMSS 2017 Spring Meeting

The CMSS 2017 Spring Meeting begins Friday (May 12) morning with an Opening Address, “Status of Single Accreditation System,” featuring Adrienne White-Faines, MPA, CEO of the American Osteopathic Association; Stephen Shannon, DO, MPH, President & CEO, American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine; Rebecca Miller, MS, SVP, Application and Data Analysis of the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education. Janis Orlowski, MD MACP, Chief Health Care Officer of the Association of American Medical Colleges will serve as the reactor to this session.
A Friday morning special joint session of the Continuing Professional Development Directors, Information & Technology, Registries, and QI-PI Directors will address “Integrating CME in Registries.”
During the Friday luncheon, Hunt Batjer, MD, FACS, FAANS, Lois C.A. and Darwin E. Smith Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School will present “Athletic Head Trauma: The Interface Between Sports, Science, Pseudoscience, Politics and Money.”
This year CMSS is happy to be partnering with the American Association for Physician Leadership to host a session Friday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. titled, “Building Leadership and Communications Skills that Empower You.” The course objectives are as follows:
- To have the attendees increase their skills of connection, communication and leadership;
- To provide an interactive forum to learn the best methods to influence others; and
- To empower each individual within their own potential to become the best leader that they can be.
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of The American Association for Physician Leadership and Council of Medical Specialty Societies. The American Association for Physician Leadership is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The American Association for Physician Leadership designates this live activity for a maximum of 2.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
The Educational Session Friday afternoon will address the increasingly important topic of “Clinician Burnout Resiliency and Regaining Joy in Medicine” with Christine Sinsky, MD of the American Medical Association (AMA), who will focus on the AMA’s Joy of Medicine initiatives. Joe Rotella, MD, Chief Medical Officer of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine will serve as a reactor.
The Saturday (May 13) morning keynote will feature Arthur Hengerer, MD, FACS, Chair of the Federation of State Medical Boards, who will present “Duty to Report or Prevent—the Challenge to Professional Self-regulation in Medicine.” Following Dr. Hengerer, Wayne Dysinger, MD, MPH, Board of Regents for the American College of Preventive Medicine will present “Lifestyle Medicine Curriculum for all Specialties.”
The Council Business meeting will take place from 9:45 a.m. – 10:45 a.m., after which the meeting will conclude.
